Florida Nursing Continuing Education and CEU Credits

NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.


Mandatory Subjects Every Renewal:

• General Hours - 16 contact hours

• Prevention of Medical Errors – 2 contact hours
• Florida Laws and Rules – 2 contact hours
• Human Trafficking - 2 contact hours
• Safe and Effective Prescription of Controlled Substances – 3 contact hours

Mandatory Subjects Every Other Renewal:

• Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace - 2 contact hours every 2nd renewal

Additional Requirements for Renewal:

• Domestic Violence - 2 contact hours every 3rd renewal
• HIV/AIDS – 1 contact hour; 1-time requirement first renewal

RNs are required to complete the following continuing education hours for license renewal: 

• General Hours – 16 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.

• Human Trafficking - 2 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.

• Domestic Violence - 2 contact hours every 3rd renewal.

First Biennium Renewal: RNs initially licensed by examination during the current biennium, or RNs initially licensed by endorsement during the current biennium who took the exam in another state within the biennium, are exempt from the general CEU requirements for the first renewal. Those licensees must complete 2 hours in Prevention of Medical Errors, 2 hours in Florida Laws and Rules, 2 hours of Human Trafficking, 2 hours of Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace, and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS. Initial licenses that were issued for less than 24 months are required to complete 1-hour for each month that the license was valid for; these hours must include the required hours listed above.
