About the Course
This course provides a chance for participants to learn about the connections between stress and health, assess stress in their own lives, as well as learn, practice, and apply stress management strategies. Strategies include behavioral and cognitive changes, assertiveness, time management, nutrition, meditation, and other relaxation techniques. The course draws from the work of many theorists and researchers including Kabatt-Zinn, Benson, Folkman and Lazarus, and Candace Pert.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
Debra Rose Wilson, PhD, MSN, RN, IBCLC, AHN-BC, CHT, is a health psychologist and a nurse. She has worked for many years gaining expertise in public health, obstetrics, complementary and alternative therapies, epidemiology, breastfeeding trends, wellness, disease prevention, and higher education. Seeking to view health from outside the western model, Dr. Rose completed a Master of Science in Holistic Nursing, then with a focus on psychoneuroimmunology completed a PhD in Health Psychology. Dr. Rose has worked in maternal/infant health, public health, program development, and nursing education. She has delivered over 150 formal presentations and is an internationally known speaker on stress and self-care, holistic nursing, and complementary therapies. With over 100 publications, her research experience includes: healing for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, autoimmune disease, breastfeeding, complementary therapies, and women’s health. Her current research areas include: stress, stress management, autoimmune disease, and immune function.
