Many cancers affect both males and females, but some are unique to women and impact women during childbearing years. The impact of a cancer diagnosis for either a man or a woman can be devastating and have a cascading impact on the immediate and extended family. Even though roles in society are evolving from what were historically female responsibilities, such as child care and household management, many women continue in these roles in addition to working outside the home and being head of households with financial responsibilities.
This course reviews many of the major concepts in nursing care when women are diagnosed with malignancies. The major reproductive organ cancers that affect women are addressed, including breast, ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers. Information about each of these cancers includes an overview of the epidemiology of the cancer, risk factors, risk assessment, prevention and detection strategies, diagnosis, staging, and treatment modalities.
This course is an extraction of, and should not be taken in conjunction with, course #N1755 - Cancer in Women, 3rd Edition, or course #N1849 - Breast Cancer in Women: An Overview.
