The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has overwhelmed healthcare workers across the nation.  Healthcare workers have been psychologically and physically impacted by the demands of providing care to patients with COVID-19.  It is important to be knowledgeable about how healthcare workers have been affected by the pandemic, and interventions that will manage positive PTSD symptoms.

Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify characteristics of PTSD
  • Describe three types of PTSD
  • Identify pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment interventions

About the Author/Presenter
Daphne Essex, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C, is a professionally trained family and psychiatric nurse practitioner in Alabama. She has worked as a nurse practitioner for more than 20 years and has vast experience as a nurse educator. She serves in the military (Air Force and Alabama Air National Guard) and has firsthand knowledge of the importance of mental healthcare for veterans.
