Pediatric Health and Physical Assessment, 2nd Edition

PLEASE NOTE: Credit will not be awarded for completion of this course.

Nurses are the primary caregivers in many pediatric healthcare settings. They need specialized skills to be able to accurately assess pediatric patients during health and illness. The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to pediatric health assessment for nurses with limited pediatric experience and to serve as a refresher for nurses caring for children in a variety of healthcare settings. It is essential that nurses develop adequate assessment skills in order to promptly identify potentially significant changes in the pediatric patient’s condition. The course provides nurses with the necessary information to gather a comprehensive pediatric health history and perform a complete physical examination. In order to provide safe, quality care to the pediatric patient, the nurse also needs an understanding of some common pediatric conditions. Reviews of common abnormalities seen in the pediatric patient are provided by body system.
