About Course #N1715

Release Date: July 18, 2016

Expiration Date: July 31, 2019

Many pediatric health problems, such as the development of infectious and chronic diseases, can be prevented through health promotion and health maintenance efforts. In order to improve the health and well-being of children and families, nurses have the opportunity to play a central role in establishing and maintaining healthy behaviors in children and adolescents that promote healthier lifestyles. Through the use of anticipatory guidance, nurses can have a positive impact on pediatric patient outcomes.

The purpose of this course is to ensure that nurses who provide care to children and families are aware of the current interventions for health promotion and health maintenance for the pediatric patient population. The course content is targeted to both the novice and experienced pediatric nurse. This course is arranged by specific areas of focus and provides information for each of the pediatric age groups. Confidentiality, as a special consideration for adolescent patients during their healthcare visits, will be discussed. The course will conclude with a discussion of pediatric screening procedures including vision and hearing screening, lead screening, hemoglobin/hematocrit, developmental milestones, dyslipidemia, tuberculosis, and sexual health.
