About the CourseThis course meets Nebraska’s requirements for advanced practice nurses related to identification and management of pain and addiction, as well as Nebraska practices of prescribing and dispensing opioids.
In accordance with Legislature of Nebraska, Legislative Bill 788, Section 1, Sections 38-145, this course meets the requirements for advanced practice nurse prescribers. As part of this 3-hour course, 0.5 hours cover the prescription drug monitoring program in accordance with the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services guidelines.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Evaluate patients for opioid therapy and document informed consent, treatment plans, and patient-provider agreements.
- Demonstrate an understanding of opioid treatment selection and adjustment.
- Apply recommendations for the use of emergency opioid antagonists in patient teaching.
- Demonstrate understanding of the mandates of the Nebraska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
About the Author
Katie Blair, PharmD, RPh, is a pharmacist and freelance writer specializing in pharmacy education.
