This course is designed for healthcare professionals to enhance their understanding of the pharmacology and clinical considerations related to insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents used in the management of hyperglycemia. Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Explain the pharmacology, administration, and monitoring of insulin therapy for diabetes management.
- Explain the pharmacology, administration, and monitoring of oral hypoglycemic agents for diabetes management.
- Understand how to assess and monitor blood glucose levels accurately, including the use of hemoglobin A1c (Hgb A1c) for long-term glucose control, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Compare and select appropriate oral hypoglycemic agents for patients with type 2 diabetes, considering individual patient factors, drug mechanisms of action, and potential side effects.
- Understand healthcare considerations of insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents.
