Course Overview
This course is intended for all health care professionals who care for patients and individuals with degenerative diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). This course is also intended for health care professionals seeking further knowledge about degenerative diseases of the CNS or are just transitioning to a realm of practice where this population group is served more. The goal of this course is for health care professionals to be able to identify the incidence, pathophysiology, clinical picture, medical management, and treatment for the following degenerative diseases of the CNS: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.

Learning Outcomes 
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Assess the incidence of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
  • Analyze the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • Analyze the clinical picture of Huntington’s Disease.
  • Differentiate the medical management of Multiple Sclerosis.
  • Categorize a rehabilitation treatment for Parkinson’s Disease. 
  • Classify patient characteristics in Phase 1 of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.  
     

About the Author/Presenter 
Cynthia Diaz is a proud Florida International University graduate who has been a practicing occupational therapist for 17 years. Her professional journey has taken her to various realms of the healthcare world, including orthopedic outpatient, inpatient, acute care, hospice, neurological, and school-based care. She cares deeply about being an advocate for her patients to increase function and enjoyment of life!
