About the Course
Clinicians working across all healthcare settings recognize the impact of personal and professional losses due to COVID-19. A major emphasis of this course is to provide an understanding of the impact of loss, grief, and bereavement on the clinician. Recognizing grief reactions in clinicians after a patient dies by the coronavirus is explored. Whether the learner is a bereaved clinician or a supervisor who wants to help their team, they will gain insight into coping with COVID-19 related loss, posttraumatic growth, and meaning making. The course also describes how clinicians can manage their grief by identifying their strengths and building their personal resilience. 

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
  • Describe the components of the Palette of Grief.
  • Apply the Palette of Grief to your personal and professional self.
  • Identify steps to manage grief by identifying personal strengths and building on your own  personal resilience. 
About the Presenter
Barbara Rubel, MA, B.C.E.T.S., D.A.A.E.T.S., l is a nationally recognized keynote speaker, trainer, and webinar instructor on secondary traumatic stress and vicarious trauma. Her keynotes motivate clinicians to build their personal resilience. Her story was featured in the Emmy award-winning documentary Fatal Mistakes: families shattered by suicide, narrated by Mariette Hartley. Ms. Rubel is a consultant with the Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, and co-wrote their training curriculum, Compassion Fatigue/Vicarious Trauma.  She is the author of the book But I Didn’t Say Goodbye: Helping families after a suicide, 3rd edition and the 30-hour continuing education course book for Nurses, Loss, Grief and Bereavement: Helping individuals cope. Ms. Rubel is a contributing writer in Coaching for Results: Expert advice from 25 top international coaches; Keys to a Good Life: Wisdom to unlock your power within; Thin Threads: Grief and renewal; and Fresh Grief.  Her background includes working as a hospice bereavement coordinator and serving as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College, where she taught undergraduate and master’s-level courses in Death, Life and Health, Children and Death, Health Crisis Intervention, and Health Counseling. Ms. Rubel received a BS degree in Psychology and a MA degree in Community Health, with a concentration in thanatology, from Brooklyn College.
