NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.
To renew: Two of the following every 2-year renewal period
- 30 CE hours
- 30 hours of professional nursing activity
- 320 hours of nursing employment
APRNs with prescriptive authority are required 15 contact hours in advanced pharmacology and clinical management of drug therapy, which may be counted as part of the 30 contact hours.
In addition, to renew a valid federal DEA registration number requires 2 hours in pain management and opioid use and addiction.
Contact hours used for initial authorization as an ANP may not be used again for renewal of the authorization unless the initial authorization is within 180 days of the renewal deadline.
